Cagliari faced a challenge when they visited Milan in the Serie A, and the encounter lived up to expectations, concluding in a 1-1 draw.

The first half was goalless, but straight after half-time, Álvaro Morata made his mark as he netted to give Milan the lead.

In the 55th minute, Nadir Zortea equalised for Cagliari, with an assist by Mattia Felici.

The result means Milan are now in seventh place in the table and that Cagliari are in 18th place.

“I expected much, much more in every area. Considering the quality of the squad at my disposal,” Sergio Conceicao, who was making his Serie A debut as Milan boss, told Sky Sport Italia after the 1-1 draw.

“The first half was probably the worst I’ve had in my 13 years as coach, to be honest,” he added, having seen Mike Maignan concede easily in goal while Tammy Abraham was wasteful.

Milan play Como on 14 January, Juventus on 18 January and Parma (home) on 26 January. Cagliari’s next opponents are Lecce on 19 January, Torino on 24 January and Lazio (home) on 3 February.
