The details

The Tribunal Central Administrativo do Sul (TCAS) ruled on April 17 regarding a request made by Varandas for suspension and a fine.

Varandas received a 51-day suspension and an 8,568 euro fine from the Conselho de Disciplina (CD) of the Federação Portuguesa de Futebol (FPF) on April 3.

This action was taken in response to a disciplinary report submitted by the Associação Portuguesa de Árbitros de Futebol (APAF) to the CD of the FPF.

The report was submitted after Varandas made comments about refereeing during a Sporting TV interview in February.

The CD of the FPF stated that Varandas’ statements were considered as “calumnious denunciation” that impacted the “honor” and “reputation” of referees.

Varandas’ request for suspension was denied, so he must now serve the suspension.

This suspension will prevent him from accessing the technical areas of stadiums for the remainder of the season.

Varandas is not allowed to be present in the technical areas of sports venues during official matches.

This restriction applies from two hours prior to the beginning to 60 minutes following the conclusion of the matches.

Additionally, he is prohibited from publicly involving himself in matters pertaining to sports competitions.

This ruling by the TCAS states that Varandas is required to follow these restrictions for the rest of the season.
